FIRST STOP
EDINBURGH
Edinburgh is the starting point for your journey. Although it is the capital of Scotland, it is not a busy city.
You can easily walk and visit all the main landmarks available. Go up the Royal Mile, the main road of the
city’s historical centre until you reach one of the jewels of Scotland: Edinburgh Castle. This is where kings and
queens were crowned and where a lot of Scotland’s most important historic landmarks took place. Take your
time to explore the castle and absorb every single detail of its history. On your way back, make sure to stop
by the vibrant and colourful Grass Market, an area in Edinburgh’s old town, where you can find endless ideas
for your next projects, due to the great variety of independent merchants, designers and artisans. Although the
Grass market is nowadays a must-go place for Design and Art lovers, between the 14th and the 19th century,
the scenery was a bit different, since its main square used to be the place where executions took place. One of
the most famous executions was Maggie Dickson’s, a local woman, who survived her death sentence and led
to a big change in the laws of that time. (Curious about this story? Visit the-grassmarket.com and read more
about Maggie Dickson’s faith) Her name is now one of Edinburgh’s best-known bars. Then, go up Calton Hill,
UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can find several monuments and a unique view over the city, which
makes it the perfect spot to take pictures and enjoy the city view. Edinburgh has a lot more to offer, so make
sure you don’t miss anything.
