PARIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA
WITH A JAMES BOND IRREVERENT TOUCH
Everybody knows that Audrey Hepburn said “Paris is always a
good idea”. But how many of us know that this city, more than
a state of mind, is a state of art and design? Yes, it’s not that
obvious. Usually, we associate Paris simply with romance. And
we forget about the anonymous painters. And we forget about
Montmartre (how can it be?). And we forget about art and design.
And then, when we realize, we forget a little about ourselves, too.
Somewhere in Clichy - in the 9th arrondissement of Paris - there is
a stunning place, almost taken out of a movie, that was the subject
of a home makeover by interior design studio [10surdix].
This French team created an inspiring modern home filled with
industrial accents and a mid-century sideboard that you won’t
ever forget. In the centre of this French movie, there is an English
star, as big as James Bond itself – the Monocles Sideboard. This
movie-inspired sideboard makes all the difference in the room. As
soon as you see it, you feel that you’re in a James Bond movie and,
damn it, that you are James Bond himself. To decorate a place with
a 70s groove couldn’t have been easier since its gold plated brass
lights up a room all by itself. The monocles circles are engraved on
the back and side of the unit, giving it an extreme character and
high-end look. Retro lovers and mid-century aficionados become
admired with such a décor beauty. This renovated house, entirely
designed by the French trio, displays an open plan living very
characteristic of industrial interiors.
The more modern and slightly bohemian look was achieved not
only with Essential Home’s Monocles sideboard but also with
DelightFULL’s minimalist Clark chandelier. Deciding to use an
oversized mirror simply placed against the wall, they made a way
to convey a relaxed vibe in such a wide space as this living room.
The concrete wall behind the television attributed a special touch
with the handpainted flowers on the top. The canopy between the
master bedroom and the corridor was handmade especially for this
sole purpose in the studios’ workshops near Paris. The wall fixtures
Brubeck wall sconces are also bespoke pieces from the mid-century
lighting brand DelightFULL. During your next trip to Paris, don’t
forget to see this irreverent piece in Clichy.
