SINGAPLURAL 2018 - SINGAPORE
Ensued in the National Design Centre, SingaPlural 2018 occurred
from 5 to 18 March and displayed the best design elements from
the multi-faceted creative spectrum. “A State in Play” was the
chosen theme for this edition, which consisted in celebrating the
whole process of work before the design itself is developed. This
gives wings to naivety, experimentation and exploring new ways
of designing, freeing one from predetermined concepts. This
theme played with the idea that there are no failed experiments,
only ones with unexpected outcomes.
SingaPlural is the anchor event of the annual Singapore Design
Week. It is supported by the DesignSingapore Council, the
International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the Singapore Tourism
Board and SPRING Singapore.
INDEX - DUBAI, UAE
Considered the longest-running trade show in the region, Index
returned to the Dubai World Trade Centre from 26 to 29 March 2018.
This edition’s theme was centred on design for self-expression. The
event had the most miscellaneous and creative assembly of exhibitors
to date, bringing together the most proficient architects, interior
designers, developers and professionals, as well as fresh new brands.
In addition, visitors also had the opportunity to see bespoke live
features brought exclusively to Dubai by leading European designers.
Index celebrated design as a direct reflection of individuality. As
explained by the event director, Samantha Kane-Macdonald, “the
pendulum of control has swung back to the people. The design mantra
is more and more about incorporating the traits of the individual: their
beliefs, their experiences, their ambitions. Never before have interiors,
furniture and décor been considered such a direct reflection of those
who own the space”. In 2018, Index attracted over 1,000 exhibitors
from 60 different countries. The show offered a myriad and diversity
of products perfect for those who were looking for just the right piece
for a specific project.
