SPOON 2
PARIS, FRANCE
CovetED Magazine is always very fond of luxury restaurants and
never misses the chance to experience them in person. So we went
on tour to Paris, the city of lights, the city of Love and the city of the
most wonderful restaurants. And what a wonderful experience we
had at Spoon Restaurant & Bar. Spoon is located in the Palais Brong-
niart. A la carte of this DUCASSE Restaurant, recipes are inspired
by the World’s culinary traditions. Gastronomic entrepreneur Alain
Ducasse’s new version of his restaurant Spoon occupies the former
premises of one of Yannick Alleno’s Terroir Parisian restaurants in
the Palais Brogniart, the old Paris stock-market building in the heart
of the city, which were redesigned in a curiously nondescript way
by the otherwise tremendously elegant interior architect Jean-Mi-
chel Wilmotte. The second we got inside the restaurant, the decora-
tion stood out immediately. There was a mixture of modern design
perfectly combined with rustic details, such as wood dining tables
and big dark iron objects. The decor was completed by incredible
objects from several different countries, displayed as if we were also
inside a historical museum. The restaurant wasn’t very big, but ex-
tremely comfortable, warm and the kind of place we do not wish
to leave. Spoon is perfect for romantic dinners, for business lunch-
es and, in spite of its size, is also very nice for big group dinners.
And don’t be surprised if you spend most of your time admiring the
walls and the details you keep finding all the time. So, it’s a fact that
the decor takes you on a trip around the world. When you pass the
entrance, you get to Asia with a huge bronze bell and an impressive
gong, which you could actually interact with. By the tables, you
pack your bags again, this time into the African continent, with sev-
eral ancient instruments displayed on the walls, which we believe to
be called mbiras. Also, the music is a special feature from Spoon and
a free ticket to travelling around the world as well. You can listen to
music from different countries. And what a surprise it was to listen
to our so beloved fado in a Parisian restaurant! A wonderful multi-
cultural experience! Enough now of luxury interior design. Let’s talk
about the food. What can I say? Also multicultural, of course. Since
we were having some difficulties in choosing, we asked the nice
staff to surprise us with what they thought to be the best. And it
was the best food that we have ever tried. We tasted Indian spices,
Asian specialities and a marvellous combination of flavours in the
desserts that we had yet to experience. It was easy to see that every-
thing was made with ingredients with the highest quality. With the
coffee, came a small square of Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse. The taste
of that piece of chocolate was a unique experience for itself, a mix-
ture of different flavours that enhanced the delicious dark chocolate.
“A call pure and simple to self-indulgence”, as they say, and totally
confirmed. Spoon was definitely a unique experience and a place I
truly want to come back. If you get to go to Paris, don’t miss the
chance to be at a wonderful restaurant with such refined cuisine. To
all the staff that was so nice and welcoming, thank you so much for
the impeccable service and for a memorable lunch. Looking forward
to coming back in the nearest future possible.
