Over the years we \nhave focused on making a difference on the market.\nDespite our great age, we are still curious, we still have our \npassion and we still don’t ask the market what it wants or needs. \nWe carry out our own business intelligence assessments and \nrarely or never rely on anyone else’s trend analysis.    \nWe continue to concentrate on seating such as stools, chairs, \nsofas and armchairs, but also on their closest associates, such \nas benches and tables of various types. \nSustainability and environmental awareness, new technologies, \nnew materials and new machinery are important foundations and \nbuilding blocks for us. All of this can be achieved within a small \narea here in Sweden, making us quite unique as a production \ncountry. We want high quality and a well-thought-out process. \nWe never take shortcuts. \nWe always strive to adopt a new approach to form, function, \nmaterial and technology. To succeed with this, you have to be \nas curious about industry as about young people’s behaviour. \nWe constantly reassess what we surround ourselves with and \nhow this affects our lives and opportunities.\n \nBlå Station was established 30 years ago, in 1986, by a \ndesigner who after many successful years had tired of designing \nyet another chair and instead wanted to devote himself to \nsomething completely different. But with a recent award in his \nhand and too many rounds of golf behind him, it wasn’t possible \nto avoid the temptation of doing what he loved best – namely \nthe challenge of designing at least one more chair... \nAnd when nobody wanted to produce the whole new furniture \nseries, which he called OBLADO, he decided to become his \nown producer. The table didn’t exist – but only I knew \nthat.\nWhat I did next was to work entirely on the \nbasis of the function, removing everything that \noften makes the design unique – the time to \nthink and rethink, to question everything from \nthe construction, material choice, size and \nappearance... because there was no time for \nall that.\nIt was simply a case of creating a small table –  \na table for a coffee cup and a plate, stable so \nthat the coffee or drink wouldn’t spill; a table  \nthat would work as a stool or footstool and as a \ntable for a sofa or armchair, easy to place and \nmobile. \nQuite simply an independent, chameleon-like  \nitem of furniture which wouldn’t intrude on the  \nidentities of other products. The square of the module and the \nvertical frame fit with a variety of architectural \nstructures, like floating floor tiles, with a presence \nlike a flying carpet.\nWhen the square units of the flying carpet are \nconnected, one by one, with a variety of colours, \nthey create interest and union in the surrounding \nspace. By giving Poppe an \nencircling arm support, we provide him with a new \nlevel of comfort, simultaneously adding security for \nsceptics and traditionalists who believe that they \nwill fall off something just because it’s narrower \nthan usual.\n \nPerhaps Poppe is an armchair you have to try be-\nfore you understand and appreciate it. Just like the \nOppo armchair, we have made a variant with a \nlower back, but still narrow and tall. Dent made the impossible \npossible while simultaneously challenging the \nidea of what is elegant and beautiful. \nPeople probably want to hear that Dent was \ncreated on a piece of paper that was crumpled \nup and thrown away – only to be miraculously \nrediscovered and rescued. That would have been \na fantastic story! But the truth is that the creation \nof Dent involved intense work to tame a hard, flat \nsurface into a double-curved seat shell, carefully \nand comfortably formed to the contours of the \nbody. And we succeeded!
