Along with one of the \nfounders, Oscar Tusquets, this group fosters the \nsame nonconformist spirit BD has had since its \nbeginnings. Our independence as a company \nfuels our intentions and supports this purpose. We \nare now expanding our design dialogue to delve \ninto diverse realms of creativity, in design and in \neverything we do.\nBD has been around for over half a century. It \nwas founded in a nightclub in 1972 by a bunch of \nyoung architects and designers from Barcelona. \nThey broke into the design world with a new vision: \nto produce and market their designs, and the \ndesigns of their friends with complete creative \nfreedom and design criteria. Siza’s \narchitecture is honest and efficient, \nand his creativity triggers moments \nof contemplation.\nANTOINE ET MANUEL\nAntoine Audiau and Manuel Warosz \nwork in tandem to create playful and \nvivid designs at Antoine et Manuel.\nThe duo have worked in the fields \nof culture and fashion with clients \nincluding Yale University, Christian \nLacroix, Sèvres, Galleries Lafayette \nand Coca-Cola. The cabinet they \ndesigned for BD was their first time \nentering the world of furniture design.\nARQUITECTURA-G\nARQUITECTURA-G is a Barcelona-\nbased architectural practice \nfounded in 2006 by Jonathan \nArnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor \nFuentes and Igor Urdampilleta \nwhile they were still students. \nTheir work ranges from furniture \ndesign to private houses, retail \narchitecture, multi-familly housing \nor public facilities. Their work \nhas been internationally recognized, \nincluding the 2015 EU Emerging \nArchitect Mies Van der Rohe Prize.\n \nDOSHI LEVIEN\nDoshi Levien began in 2000 in \nLondon. They create design objects \nand hybrid forms that balance \ntechnology, culture and quality \ncraftsmanship. The two have unique \nsignatures in their work, with their \nobjects exploring visual culture within \nindustrial and furniture design\nEDUARD SAMSÓ\nForever associated with our iconic \nMirallmer mirror, Eduard Samsó \nis both an interior and industrial \ndesigner.\nEduard Samsó was Born in \nBarcelona in 1956, and graduated \nfrom Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica \nSuperior de Arquitectura in \n1980. In 1983 he created Samsó \n+ Associats and worked as an \ninterior designer for decades. He \nbecame a trendsetter and leader \nin the interior design movement of \nBarcelona, creating the aesthetics \nof stores like Jean Pierre Bua and \nbars like Nick Havanna. His design \nhas been in BD’s catalogue for some \ntime, especially his Mirallmer, which \nwas designed as part of The Casa \nBarcelona series for the Barcelona \nOlympic Games in 1992.\nETTORE SOTTSASS\nEttore Sottsass was an architect \nand grandee of late-20th-century \ndesign. His work developed how we \nview design today. Sottsass notably \nfounded the Memphis collective, \ncreating beautiful glass and ceramic \ndesigns. He is known for his colourful \nand bold geometric forms, and also \ndesigned the Shiva vase in 1973, the \nemblem of BD and a symbol of his \nbright, playful and inspired attitude.\nFÄRG & BLANCHE\nStockholm based design studio \nFÄRG & BLANCHE was founded \nin 2010 by the Swedish designer \nFredrik Färg and designer Emma \nMarga Blanche, born in France. \nAs a studio, they work across a \nwide variety of fields, collaborating \nwith established furniture brands \nsuch as BD Barcelona Design, \nGärsnäs, Rörstrand, Petite Friture \nand Design House Stockholm to \nname a few, as well as producing \ntheir own collections and limited \nart pieces for galleries. Known for \ntheir experimental stance, where \neach expression informs the other, \nthey effortlessly move between the \nexclusive hand made one off and the \nindustrially produced, without ever \nlosing their distinctive touch\nISABEL GAMERO\nIsabel Gamero is a designer who co-\ncreated the Plec umbrella stand with \nJordi Pérez for BD. They created a \npiece of simple, functional beauty in \nstainless steel.\nJAIME HAYON\nHis work is a spectacle of whimsy \nand insight. Jaime Hayon’s creative \ntalents know no bounds. Born \nin Madrid and internationally \nrecognised, Hayon moved into \ndesign with a deep love for art, \ninfusing vibrant colours, folkloric \npieces and captivating charm into his \npieces. He moves along materials, \ncreating a visual language that is as \ncaptivating as it is accessible. \nJORDI BADIA\nA dentist by profession, doctor Jordi \nBadia became a designer when \nhe collaborated with the industrial \ndesigner Otto Canalda on the radical \nBinaria stool.\nDoctor Jordi Badía was born in \nBarcelona in 1959, studied and \ngraduated cum laude from the \nUniversity of Barcelona with a \nPhD in medicine. He also studied \narchitecture at Barcelona’s Escuela \nTécnica Superior de Arquitectura \nand had persistent lumbago, which \nled him to collaborate with the \ndesigner Otto Canalda to design \nthe Binaria stool. It had immediate \nsuccess, was rewarded with a Silver \nDelta ADI-FAD award in 2005, and \nled to a disappearance of his lower \nback pain.\nJORDI PÉREZ\nJordi Pérez is a designer who co-\ncreated the Plec umbrella stand with \nIsabel Gamero for BD. They created \na piece of simple, functional beauty \nin stainless steel.\nJordi Pérez was born in Barcelona \nin 1969, and studied at Barcelona’s \nElisava School of Design & \nEngineering. He has won several \ndesign awards and collaborated \nwith renowned design studios and \nmanufacturing companies in Spain \nand Italy. Since 2002, he has formed \npart of the Roca Design Center and \nlectured at Elisava and the Centro \nRicerche Domus Academy in Milan.\nKLAS ERNFLO\nKlas Ernflo is a Swedish artist \nknown for his multidisciplinary \napproach to form and material, \nblending graphic design, illustration, \nand fine art. Spanning across \na range of mediums, his work \nharnesses a playful abstractness \nand a continuous allusion to \nnature, combining minimalism with \nwhimsical details to put a unique \nperspective on everyday objects.\nKONSTANTIN GRCIC\nThe work of Konstantin Grcic is \ncharacterised by careful research \nand refined results, as well as a \nminimalist style with considered \nsimplicity.\nGrcic was born in 1965 and trained \nas a cabinet maker at the John \nMakepeace School for Craftsmen \nin Wood before studying design at \nthe Royal College of Art in London. \nHe set up his office in Munich in \n1991, now based in Berlin, operating \namong diverse fields, including \nexhibition and industrial design to \narchitectural collaborations. He has \nworked with names like Aeance, \nAuthentics, Cassina, ClassiCon, \nFlötotto, Flos, Galerie Kreo, Kettal, \nLaufen, Magis, Muji, Nespresso, \nPlank, Smart, Vitra and BD.\nHis meticulous attention to detail \nis shown in his designs: they have \nutilitarian elegance and sharp \nangular forms. His extensive \nresearch and use of technology \nhave placed him in the permanent \ncollections of numerous museums \nacross the globe, and he has won \nnumerous international awards for \nhis beautifully functional designs.\nLLUÍS CLOTET\nLluís Clotet was born in Barcelona \nin 1941, studied and later taught \narchitecture at Barcelona’s Escuela \nTécnica Superior de Arquitectura, \nand founded Studio PER in 1964. \nAlongside architects Pep Bonet, \nCristian Cirici and Oscar Tusquets, \nhe worked on numerous projects \nfor BD until 1983, authoring iconic \nand award-winning designs. They \nemphasise the natural beauty of \nmaterials through a balance of design \nand art, translating ideas into different \nconcepts, mediums and scales.\nOSCAR TUSQUETS\nOscar Tusquets describes himself \nas an architect by training, a designer \nby adaptation, a painter by vocation, \nand a writer through the desire to \nmake friends. Born in Barcelona in \n1941, Oscar Tusquets graduated as \nan architect in 1965 from Barcelona’s \nEscuela Técnica Superior de \nArquitectura and was a member of \nStudi Per, together with Pep Bonet, \nCristian Cirici, Lluís Clotet, and Mireia \nRiera. In 1972, they founded BD \ntogether, and Tusquets set about \ndesigning furniture and other objects, \nwhich would be recognised by the \nSpanish National Design Award.\nA number of his pieces appear in \nrenowned museum collections, such \nas the MoMA in New York and the \nCentre George Pompidou in Paris. \nHe has also been honoured with the \nMedalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas \nArtes (Gold Medal for Merit in the \nFine Arts), the insignia of Chevalier de \nl’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight \nof the Order of the Arts and Letters) \nand the Creu de Sant Jordi (Cross \nof Sant Jordi). Since the ‘90s, he has \npublished books on a wide range of \ndesign-related topics.\nOTTO CANALDA\nOtto Canalda is a designer with a \ncontemporary style and technical \nprowess.\nBorn in Barcelona in 1977, Otto \nCanalda graduated from Barcelona’s \nElisava School of Design and later \njoined the product development \nteam at BD. He works closely with \nour creative director, Ramon Úbeda, \ncollaborating on some of our favorite \nprojects, focusing on furniture design \nand lighting. He also collaborated with \nDr Jordi Badia on the highly successful \nBinaria stool.\nPEPE CORTÉS\nPepe Cortés has a unique design \nlanguage that refines objects to their \nelemental level. He was involved in \niconic interior design projects and \nco-founded the Open Design Group \nduring the early 1970s. Cortés has \nwon numerous awards and is the \ndesigner of the BD favourite, the \nJamaica stool.\nRAMÓN ÚBEDA\nRamon Úbeda is a Spanish architect, \nwriter and designer, moving between \ndiverse fields with great skill and \ncreative prowess.\nRamón Úbeda was born in Jaén \nin 1962, trained as an architect, \nand is a writer, designer and editor. \nEditing publications such as De \nDiseño and Ardi and working with \nnumerous others, Úbeda has a broad \ncareer informed by comprehensive \nexperience in various fields. He began \nworking with BD in 1997 as a graphic \ndesigner and, from 2001 to 2022, \nwas the creative director of furniture \ndesign. He has curated projects and \nexhibitions for Fundación Signes and \nFAD, collaborated with Camper and \nArtQuitect, and also still operates as a \ndesigner, both graphic and industrial, \ncreating furniture, household objects \nand lighting for companies like Rapsel, \nMetalarte, ABR and Mosaics Martí \nand BD.\nRONAN BOUROULLEC\nBorn in rural Brittany in 1971, Ronan \nBouroullec lives and works in Paris, \nFrance, and is a 21st-century design \nicon. He has produced exceptionally \ninviting and innovative designs \nsince the 1990s and his creativity \nhas earned him a global reputation, \nwith his exquisite designs and art \nproduced, exhibited, and appreciated \nacross the globe.\n \nSABINE MARCELIS\nSabine Marcelis is a New Zealand-\nborn Dutch designer. She has worked \nin product, installation and spatial \ndesign since 2011, focusing on pure \nforms and their materiality. Her \ndesigns are meticulously refined \nand appreciated internationally, \nwith commercial and fashion clients \naround the world. She makes \nexperiences and forms with a \nsensorial quality.  \nSERBAN IONESCU\nSerban Ionescu is a Romanian artist \nknown for using bold colours and \nshifting organic forms to transform \nfunctional everyday objects into \nexpressive artworks. His work spans \nacross sculpture, painting, design, \nand architecture, weaving each \npractice into the other to challenge \nperceptions of space and utility.2.\nSTEPHEN BURKS\nStephen Burks blurs the line between \nindustrial manufacturing and \nartisanal design. He uses authentic \ncraft traditions and contemporary \nmethods, producing products, \nfurniture, lighting, and exhibitions for \nhis studio, Man Made.\nWILLO PERRON\nBorn in Montreal, Willo Perron has \ngained worldwide recognition for \nhis work as a creative director and \ndesigner, specializing in audiovisual \ncontent, video production and design. \nHe's known for creating solid concepts \nand unique realizations that catch \nthe eye. After working at Apple, he \nfounded his company, Willo Perron \nand Associates. His multidisciplinary \nstudio, Perron-Roettinger, which he \nco-founded with Brian Roettinger, has \nworked for brands such as Adidas and \nStussy, and their designs have been \nshowcased at numerous international \nfairs. Perron's designs are recognized \nfor their use of scale, simplicity of \nforms and the use of space, which \nplays a crucial role in shaping the final \nform of his designs.\nXAVIER MAÑOSA\nXavier Mañosa is a Spanish \nceramist and designer known for \nhis innovative approach to merging \nmodern industrial techniques with \nancient artisanal traditions.
