The company works on interior design \nprojects as well as exhibition stands, and colla-\nborates in Italy, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and \nthe USA. Since 1989, the studio has also been in-\nvolved in Industrial Design, in the vastest sense \nof the term. It has become an integral part of the \nfirm’s creative activities, working with companies \nin various industries: from furnishings to lighting \ndesign to household articles. The studio’s desi-\ngns, published by the most noted industry ma-\ngazines, have received awards and recognition \nat competitions and exhibits. Since 1996, the \nstudio has served as consultant and art director \nfor numerous product design companies, taking \non projects that range from designing exhibition \nstands to developing a coordinated brand ima-\nge. In sintesi: esplorare.  “Twenty-\nfirst” rappresenta un insieme di punti di approdo \nscoperti e segnati sulle nuove mappe dell’arte.\nCreating a design studio within a company is an \nambitious project. 21st decided to undertake this \njourney by creating the “Twentyfirst design Lab”, \na factory of ideas applied to design and pro-\nduction in order to unite technical and functional \nneeds with aesthetic appearances, by moulding \nand creating new design objects. The aim of \n21ST DESIGN LAB is to create and satisfy needs. \nOften creative projects are inhibited by the fact \nthat designers cannot follow their projects right \nthrough to the end of the production process. \nTheir job is limited to the invention phase, but \ntheir idea must be transferred and readapted to \nproduction requirements. 21st handles this issue \nby conceiving and creating objects that can be \nproduced and reproduced in the best possible \nway. The project becomes an integral part of the \nproduction process that takes on the characteri-\nstics of a skilled craftsman. Constant research for \nresults becomes a daily task. Innovative projects \nwith unexpected linguistic qualities that genera-\nte objects destined to be around for a long time. \n21st realises the importance of history and nur-\ntures a modern outlook based on research, desi-\ngn and technology. With this in mind, 21st Design \nLab is not just a straightforward laboratory, but \nrather a sailing boat upon which technicians and \ndesigners become sailors navigating in an open \nsea towards the unknown. Its aim is to connect \nemotional creativity with rational design, desi-\nre with satisfaction, fantasy with reality, beauty \nwith functionality. Two \nentities that complete and balance each other \nout, despite their being different.\nThey are certain that creativity should be free to \nroam and be applied to any object and experien-\nce of life, provided it generates new ideas and \nbrings emotion.\nCrousCalogero è uno studio di design fondato \nnel 2009 da Francesc Crous e Alessandro Calo-\ngero dopo una esperienza maturata nell’arco di \ndieci anni al fianco di grandi designer e all’interno \ndi grandi aziende internazionali. Così descrivono \nil loro lavoro: “Il nostro modo di lavorare è sem-\nplice: cerchiamo di arrivare all’essenza delle cose \neliminando il superfluo e tenendo sempre al cen-\ntro l’essere umano. Non ci piacciono gli oggetti \n‘scultura’, da ammirare a distanza, vogliamo che \ni nostri oggetti trasmettano la voglia di essere \ntoccati. La funzionalità è un requisito di base che \ndiamo per scontato e sul quale cerchiamo di sug-\ngerire una storia, fatta di memorie o di sensazio-\nni, che crei quel legame impalpabile tra oggetti e \npersone.” Negli ultimi anni hanno consolidato la \nloro attività professionale disegnando per grandi \naziende internazionali, alla quale affiancano atti-\nvità didattica tenendo corsi di design alla scuola \nEINA di Barcellona. Il loro lavoro è stato premia-\nto con i premi Delta de plata 2012 e la Selección \nDelta 2014.\n:\nCrousCalogero is a product design consultancy \nfounded in 2009 by Francesc Crous and Ales-\nsandro Calogero after a decennial experience \nside by side with famous designers and inside big \ncompanies’s design departments. They explain \ntheir method as follows: “Our way of working is \nsimple: we try to get to the essence of things, eli-\nminating what is superfluous, always with a focus \non the human being. We don’t like ‘sculptural’ \nobjects, to admire from a distance. We want our \nobjects to transmit a desire to be touched. Fun-\nctional quality is a basic requirement we take for \ngranted. On top of it we try to suggest a story, \nmade of memories or sensations, to create that \nimpalpable link between objects and people.” In \nrecent years they strengthen their collaboration \nwith different international design firms. An object with a precise function is recreated by emu-\nlating the movements of the most quintessential form of nature: \nthe tree. Any creation can be considered authentic if it remains fai-\nthful to its function. This is the moment when the creation becomes \nan industrial object of the highest level. E’ ottenuta da uno stampaggio rotazionale e dispo-\nnibile in diversi colori.\nMETA is a bookcase. It is like a finish line that connects the author \nwith the reader. Sometimes the exceptional nature of an object lies \nin the initial idea, its novelty, its function, or the new behaviours that\nare brought about by it. In this case, Mario Mazzer has created a \nsolid and serious bookcase for Twentyfirst. The overlap, and partial \npenetration and transferring of three parallelepiped shapes, which\nare hollow in the front, has an asymmetrical, dynamic shape with \na strong personality. It is, therefore, a design that mixes geometry \nand curves with high technology.
