INDUSTRIAL
DESIGNS
Industrial designs determine the aesthetic
and external appearance of a product. Visual impact
is a key factor influencing a consumer’s choice
of one product over another – in short, if a product
is attractive, consumers want it. In the lighting sector,
consumers consider other factors as well,
such as the type of light source and its energy
efficiency, but the aesthetics and overall design
are very important.
Industrial designs help companies differentiate their
products from those of competitors and improve
their brand image, so proper protection of those
designs is critical. Registering an industrial design
grants the company exclusive usage rights
and prevents unauthorized copying or imitation
of their products. In the Czech Republic, industrial
designs are protected by means of registration
with the Industrial Property Office (IPO).
This registration is valid for five years from the date
of application, and the owner can renew it repeatedly
at five-year intervals for up to 25 years.

to achieving greater returns on our investments
in new product development.
