ALESSANDRO MENDINI
Alessandro Mendini: a design
maverick of the 20th century. Born
in Milan in 1931, he was an architect,
industrial designer, and editor. He’s
the genius behind Swatch watches
and Alessi’s glory days, and was one
of the leaders of the Radical design
movement, introducing colour and
daring form into Italy in the 70s.
ALFREDO HÄBERLI
Alfredo Häberli dances between
nostalgia and novelty. Born in Buenos
Aires and based in Zürich, Häberli
works along various fields of design
with a blend of curiosity, innovation,
and charisma. His collaborations and
creations boldly fuse tradition and
cutting-edge flair.
ÁLVARO SIZA
Álvaro Siza.The architect’s architect.
His designs are bold and sleek.
They have a strong and unified
aesthetic that oozes elegance with
a great technical coherence. Siza’s
architecture is honest and efficient,
and his creativity triggers moments
of contemplation.
ANTOINE ET MANUEL
Antoine Audiau and Manuel Warosz
work in tandem to create playful and
vivid designs at Antoine et Manuel.
The duo have worked in the fields
of culture and fashion with clients
including Yale University, Christian
Lacroix, Sèvres, Galleries Lafayette
and Coca-Cola. The cabinet they
designed for BD was their first time
entering the world of furniture design.
ARQUITECTURA-G
ARQUITECTURA-G is a Barcelona-
based architectural practice
founded in 2006 by Jonathan
Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor
Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta
while they were still students.
Their work ranges from furniture
design to private houses, retail
architecture, multi-familly housing
or public facilities. They have broad
experience in the renovation of
historical architecture, rennovations
and new constructions. Their work
has been internationally recognized,
including the 2015 EU Emerging
Architect Mies Van der Rohe Prize.
DOSHI LEVIEN
Doshi Levien began in 2000 in
London. They create design objects
and hybrid forms that balance
technology, culture and quality
craftsmanship. The two have unique
signatures in their work, with their
objects exploring visual culture within
industrial and furniture design
EDUARD SAMSÓ
Forever associated with our iconic
Mirallmer mirror, Eduard Samsó
is both an interior and industrial
designer.
Eduard Samsó was Born in
Barcelona in 1956, and graduated
from Barcelona’s Escuela Técnica
Superior de Arquitectura in
1980. In 1983 he created Samsó
+ Associats and worked as an
interior designer for decades. He
became a trendsetter and leader
in the interior design movement of
Barcelona, creating the aesthetics
of stores like Jean Pierre Bua and
bars like Nick Havanna. His design
has been in BD’s catalogue for some
time, especially his Mirallmer, which
was designed as part of The Casa
Barcelona series for the Barcelona
Olympic Games in 1992.
ETTORE SOTTSASS
Ettore Sottsass was an architect
and grandee of late-20th-century
design. His work developed how we
view design today. Sottsass notably
founded the Memphis collective,
creating beautiful glass and ceramic
designs. He is known for his colourful
and bold geometric forms, and also
designed the Shiva vase in 1973, the
emblem of BD and a symbol of his
bright, playful and inspired attitude.
FÄRG & BLANCHE
Stockholm based design studio
FÄRG & BLANCHE was founded
in 2010 by the Swedish designer
Fredrik Färg and designer Emma
Marga Blanche, born in France.
As a studio, they work across a
wide variety of fields, collaborating
with established furniture brands
such as BD Barcelona Design,
Gärsnäs, Rörstrand, Petite Friture
and Design House Stockholm to
name a few, as well as producing
their own collections and limited
art pieces for galleries. Known for
their experimental stance, where
each expression informs the other,
they effortlessly move between the
exclusive hand made one off and the
industrially produced, without ever
losing their distinctive touch
ISABEL GAMERO
Isabel Gamero is a designer who co-
created the Plec umbrella stand with
Jordi Pérez for BD. They created a
piece of simple, functional beauty in
stainless steel.
JAIME HAYON
His work is a spectacle of whimsy
and insight. Jaime Hayon’s creative
talents know no bounds. Born
in Madrid and internationally
recognised, Hayon moved into
design with a deep love for art,
infusing vibrant colours, folkloric
pieces and captivating charm into his
pieces. He moves along materials,
creating a visual language that is as
captivating as it is accessible.
JORDI BADIA
A dentist by profession, doctor Jordi
Badia became a designer when
he collaborated with the industrial
designer Otto Canalda on the radical
Binaria stool.
Doctor Jordi Badía was born in
Barcelona in 1959, studied and
graduated cum laude from the
University of Barcelona with a
PhD in medicine. He also studied
architecture at Barcelona’s Escuela
Técnica Superior de Arquitectura
and had persistent lumbago, which
led him to collaborate with the
designer Otto Canalda to design
the Binaria stool. It had immediate
success, was rewarded with a Silver
Delta ADI-FAD award in 2005, and
led to a disappearance of his lower
back pain.
JORDI PÉREZ
Jordi Pérez is a designer who co-
created the Plec umbrella stand with
Isabel Gamero for BD. They created
a piece of simple, functional beauty
in stainless steel.
Jordi Pérez was born in Barcelona
in 1969, and studied at Barcelona’s
Elisava School of Design &
Engineering. He has won several
design awards and collaborated
with renowned design studios and
manufacturing companies in Spain
and Italy. Since 2002, he has formed
part of the Roca Design Center and
lectured at Elisava and the Centro
Ricerche Domus Academy in Milan.
KLAS ERNFLO
Klas Ernflo is a Swedish artist
known for his multidisciplinary
approach to form and material,
blending graphic design, illustration,
and fine art. Spanning across
a range of mediums, his work
harnesses a playful abstractness
and a continuous allusion to
nature, combining minimalism with
whimsical details to put a unique
perspective on everyday objects.
KONSTANTIN GRCIC
The work of Konstantin Grcic is
characterised by careful research
and refined results, as well as a
minimalist style with considered
simplicity.
Grcic was born in 1965 and trained
as a cabinet maker at the John
Makepeace School for Craftsmen
in Wood before studying design at
the Royal College of Art in London.
He set up his office in Munich in
1991, now based in Berlin, operating
among diverse fields, including
exhibition and industrial design to
architectural collaborations. He has
worked with names like Aeance,
Authentics, Cassina, ClassiCon,
Flötotto, Flos, Galerie Kreo, Kettal,
Laufen, Magis, Muji, Nespresso,
Plank, Smart, Vitra and BD.
His meticulous attention to detail
is shown in his designs: they have
utilitarian elegance and sharp
angular forms. His extensive
research and use of technology
have placed him in the permanent
collections of numerous museums
across the globe, and he has won
numerous international awards for
his beautifully functional designs.
LLUÍS CLOTET
Lluís Clotet was born in Barcelona
in 1941, studied and later taught
architecture at Barcelona’s Escuela
Técnica Superior de Arquitectura,
and founded Studio PER in 1964.
Alongside architects Pep Bonet,
Cristian Cirici and Oscar Tusquets,
he worked on numerous projects
for BD until 1983, authoring iconic
and award-winning designs. In 1989
he founded Clotet, Paricio & Assoc.
with Ignacio Paricio Ansúategui, and
continues to design and teach today.
