Dining
Michael S Smith believes that furniture should change with the life of the owner — from home
to home, room to room and, sometimes, hour to hour. today’s dining room has become an
extension of the living room, the family room and even the conference room. the dining tables
in the Michael S Smith collection reflect that lifestyle. the Millbrook and Morris offer both the
presence to casually mix with period furniture and the permission for everyday use.
By contrast, the dining chairs are handsome but purposeful building blocks. the Surrey is
relaxed enough for daily use but also sculptural enough to flank a sideboard. the Maze offers
comfort, the opportunity for a fabric statement, and the spice of a chinese chippendale motif.
Drawing on Michael S Smith’s private work, the 19th-century Plymouth can go anywhere. three
chairs, three stories, and one entirely new sense of the dining room.
