| chiPPendale mahogany gainsborough chair
a gainsborough chair with an upholstered back and a serpentine
crest. arms terminating in carved medallions. carved cabriole legs
with whorl foot. nail trim.
the original resides at chillingham castle. the family of earl
grey, the tea dynasty, granted the storied castle to sir humphry
Wakefield. With an eye trained at christie’s and mallett, sir humphry
has assembled an array of most distinctive antiques including this
chair. comfortable enough for an extended visit. refined enough to
enjoy pride of place in any traditional room. circa 1765.
