| du roi chaise
a tightly upholstered seat and back with a bit of a roll. cast bronze
frame with a hardwood base over asymmetrically placed legs.
the du roi chaise was a longtime fixture in the king’s bedroom at
the Palais de l’élysée, home to the President of the french republic.
Visually attenuated, this modern evolution of the recamier serves as
a symbol of overdue luxury in postwar france.

| Paquebot chair
a delicate, deeply pitched and tightly upholstered frame. scrolled
ends and saber legs ending in brass sabots.
an exercise in equilibrium, the lyrical curves and riveting lightness
of this chair celebrate the luxurious ocean liners of the 1950s. the
spirited work of andré arbus springs from a belief that the traditions
of french furniture are the tools of innovation rather than imitation. a
striking profile for a modern lounge chair. literally, a work of art. With
an ottoman between two chairs, this is the ultimate divided chaise.
