CONFIGURATION
The light fitting configuration includes an analysis of
the potential incoming energy (geographical location
of the light fitting) and a detailed analysis of the
physical location of the light fitting (proximity of
buildings or trees). Lastly, an analysis of the level of
requested service and performance will be imple-
mented (luminance levels, operation hours, potential
discontinuity in the service, if any).

WORKING
Solar Tree was designed for operation in the HYBRID
configuration: in addition to the batteries, generally
of the appropriate capacity to contain energy for
autonomous operation for up to 7-10 days (with an
energy-saving operation cycle, better specified below)
with full charge, connection with the mains is provided
for energy supply to the appliances (via an appropriate
DC power unit connected with the mains) when the
batteries are depleted. This is to ensure full service
availability even in case of persistent bad weather
and/or reduced sun irradiation or 100% use of the
luminous performance of the appliance, or anyway
when the energy balance is negative.
At dusk (recognized by determination of the dawn
and sunset time entered into the calculation routine of
the management programme or otherwise), the LED
sources are turned on until dawn according to the
pre-set duty-cycle.
In “HYBRID” appliances, the system draws energy
from the batteries until these fall to the lower charge
limit, then switches automatically to the mains.
For appliances based on this configuration, if mains
connections coincided with the desired switching time
of the public lighting appliances to which the Solar Tree
functionally refers, appropriate settings would ensure
that the voltage available upon powering is interpreted
as a start signal for the Solar Tree and vice versa in case
of disconnection from the mains.
WORKING PROGRAMS
Two operating modes are available to satisfy individual
needs – Manual and Automatic. The Automatic mode
can, in turn, be configured in three different ways,
according to the desired performance and energy
saving attitude. More specifically: AUTO ECO: 100%
operation at times of maximum attendance of the
venue, limited operation of the LED heads only in
the middle of the night (to ensure average 8 lux
ground illumination, the LED sources are turned on
and adjusted to approximately 25% of their nominal
operating power from sunset to dawn. This mode is
recommended to tend to full operation coverage even
during the fall/winter in view of energy balance).
AUTO 100%: an operation mode that tends to ensure
maximum operating performance of the appliance
adjusting to the increased input of solar energy (if
any).
CUSTOMIZED: the user can select the desired
operating times and profiles.
The above-described profiles can be associated with
deadlines and, therefore, be selected alternatively.
MANUAL: can be enabled by the user in case of
special events and/or needs. The user can access the
“fine” adjustment menu for selection on a 0-100%
scale of the flow emitted by the individual LED
heads and by the bunch of stems. The sources then
remain switched on and adjusted according to the
user’s settings until switching off or returning to the
automatic mode under the user’s control.
The structure consists of curved steel poles of different
diameters and heights, reaching a maximum total
6.4m height above road level.
The system includes 10 “grass blades” with 3mm-thick
poles with a 42mm diameter, fitted with 1 1W
terminal LED protected by a PMMA diffuser screen,
and 10 4mm-thick poles with a 76mm diameter
supporting the heads.
The heads are composed by an anodized aluminum
structure and, in the lower part, of a UV-resistant PC
cover, which ensures protection against water and
dust. They are all equipped with solar panels.
The poles are painted with green epoxy paint for
exteriors, with iridescent effects on a galvanized base
substrate.
Four of the ten heads (all with photovoltaic cells on
the top) are fitted with a COB LED unit with a warm
white colour temperature, for an asymmetric direct
emission.
The base is made of hot-zinc coated sheet steel
designed for enclosure in a plinth of the appropriate
size, not provided with the appliance, to be sunk into
the ground. Alternatively a base is available, also made
of zinc-coated steel with reinforced concrete stabilizing
units forming a round seat. In this case the base can
simply rest on the ground, even if ground fixing is
always recommended.
The connection/cabling elements, as well as the
control and charging boards, are contained in multiple
water-tight boxes with plug-and-socket connectors
with protection rating IP65 or higher, and located
either in appropriate spots at the foot of the base
for easy inspection and maintenance, or inside the
concrete stabilizing unit, as specified in detail for the
Solar Tree version constituting the object of the supply.
The airtight accumulators are contained in specific
boxes that allow, on one hand, to protect the battery
mechanically and from outer agents and, on the other
to release any gas discharges, to be provided for by
the law.
