Agape Destinations
Six Senses Roma, Italy
EN Recently opened in Rome’s Piazza di San Marcello, just a
stone’s throw from the Trevi fountain, the latest Six Senses
hotel is a feast for the eyes. Designed by Spanish architect
Patricia Urquiola, the luxurious five-star property has taken
up residence in the historic and fresco-laden Palazzo Salviati
Cesi Mellini, built in the 18th century in the Rococo style. In
designing the hotel, Urquiola drew from Rome’s landmark
architecture, lining the walls with creamy travertine stone
and white marble, similar to the ancient monuments that
pepper the eternal city.
In the rooms, Urquiola mixed playful contemporary
furnishings with rich natural materials in colours drawn
from the city’s vernacular architecture: warm tones like
muted red, burnt orange and dusty brown, which recall the
terracotta-roofed stuccoed buildings that line its millennia-
old cobblestone streets. She brought in touches of black
to add a sense of weight to the bathroom’s otherwise softly
neutral palette. For instance, as a border around the fluted
glass shower stall and the bathroom mirror, which both
match the Agape Memory taps installed above the sink and
in the shower. Urquiola also sought Agape products for the
fixtures, specifically the Spoon XL bathtub, designed by
Benedini Associati, and the Lariana washbasins, which she
designed in collaboration with the brand for the Il Sereno
hotel in Lake Como.
Remarkable cities
Warm shades of red, burnt orange, and earth recall
the terracotta roofs of the buildings that overlook
the ancient cobblestone streets of the historic
center of the Eternal City.
IT Di recente inaugurato a Roma, in Piazza di San Marcello,
a pochi passi dalla Fontana di Trevi, l’ultimo hotel Six
Senses è un autentico spettacolo per gli occhi. A firmare
il progetto del cinque stelle, che si trova all’interno del
settecentesco Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini in stile rococò,
la designer spagnola Patricia Urquiola. In un raffinato
richiamo ai monumenti di cui è costellata la città eterna,
Urquiola ha rivestito le pareti con materiali della tradizione
architettonica capitolina come il travertino nei toni del
crema e il marmo bianco.
Nelle camere, la designer mescola arredi
contemporanei e materiali naturali pregiati, ispirandosi per la
palette ai colori dell’architettura romana: le calde sfumature
del rosso, dell’arancio bruciato e della terra richiamano i
tetti in terracotta dei palazzi che si affacciano sulle antiche
strade di ciottoli del centro storico.
Nelle stanze da bagno, un tocco di nero dà carattere agli
interni delicatamente neutri, tracciando una linea attorno al
box doccia in vetro scanalato e allo specchio. Per gli arredi
e gli accessori, Urquiola ha scelto Agape, con le rubinetterie
Memory, la vasca da bagno Spoon XL di Benedini Associati
e i lavabi Lariana, da lei stessa disegnati in collaborazione
con il brand per l’hotel Il Sereno sul Lago di Como.
