A \ntheater of life experienced, where the quality of the home \nenvironment is the key premise for planning the various \nrooms: increasingly more versatile, multifunctional, able \nto adapt and mould itself to a second usage. An idea of \na cosy, reassuring and welcoming home. But constantly \nevolving, which Molteni&C interprets through wall \nsystems, the protagonists of the project and part and \nparcel of the architecture. “The home aspires to holistic \nwell-being and to organic playfulness”, explains creative \ndirector Vincent Van Duysen, who is looking for lightness, \nfluidity and the etherial in the Molteni&C|Dada 2022 \nnarrative project. While in the previous few years the \nnarrative project paid tribute to the great protagonists of \ninternational modernism, this year references to the roots \nof the movement are fleetingly mentioned, evocative. It \nmentions the atmospheres: the fluid homes, to be lived \nin, the large and convivial rooms linked one to the other, \nthe permeable internal and external spaces.  And above \nall that idea of space, extremely elegant but without \nany ostentation for ostentation’s sake, in tune with the \nsurrounding landscape. Paraphrasing Alvar Aalto:  spaces \nthat in their form express content and that content is \nlinked to Nature. Vincent van Duysen imagines a single \nstorey house, in which you can feel in touch with the \nground, with the outdoors. Think of homes marked by \ntransparency, organized with light-weight partitions and \nwide outward-looking verandas and terraces: thresholds, \nopen spaces halfway between indoors and outdoors, \nspaces that are private but in direct contact with light \nand Nature. “It’s a hymn”, explains Vincent Van Duysen, \n“to ethereal design, inspired by the great pavilions of the \nmodernist era”. Dynamic spaces characterized by the \nlightness of the lines, skillfully combined with details and \nmaterials that create softly shaped products.\nLight becomes an integral part of the design of the \nspace, because it modulates the way the architectural \ncomposition is perceived and expressed. In this \napproach, the furnishings and the modular units \nbecome protagonists in the layout of the rooms. They \nare part of the architecture, because they fuse with \nthe very articulation of the house, integrating new \ncompositional possibilities that wrap round the existing \narchitectures, such as the fireplace, or foresee new \nbuilt-in functions such as the bar and the home office. \nIn this way a symbiosis is created between furnishing \nsystems and architectural walls. And a dialogue \nbetween the structural and the mobile furniture, which \nbecome soloists within the home.  Vincent Van Duysen \nis fond of pure, sensual-feeling material finishes. Pale \nand material woods, such as natural oak and eucalyptus, \nhandbrushed or with visible grain, to create unique \nsurfaces, live to the touch.  In textiles he prefers light \nand earthy colors and material patterns that highlight \nthe rounded shape of the cushions. For a home to be \n“felt”, soft and real. To be wrapped around itself, like a \ndress made to measure.\nLight is the core of Joel Denot’s work and his \nmasterpieces have been chosen to accompany the \nnew collection. Rather than producing imagery which \nmerely captures the reality of the world around us, \nthe observer immerses themselves in the lightness of \nlight and air that Joel’s work exudes. Denot’s work is \ncharacterized by the uniqueness of colour that cannot \nbe photographed since it does not exist in front of the \ncamera, but inside it, created at the same moment as \nthe process that captures it.\nL’abitare torna centrale negli spazi della casa. Un \nteatro di vita vissuta, dove la qualità dell’ambiente è il \npresupposto cardine nella progettazione degli spazi: \nsempre più versatili, multifunzionali, capaci di adattarsi \ne potersi modellare a seconda dell’uso. Un’idea di casa \naccogliente, calda e rassicurante. \nMa in continua evoluzione, che Molteni&C interpreta \nattraverso i sistemi a parete, protagonisti del progetto \ne parte integrante dell’architettura,“La casa aspira al \nbenessere olistico e alla giocosità organica”, spiega \nil direttore creativo Vincent Van Duysen che, nel \nprogetto narrativo Molteni&C|Dada 2022, ricerca i \nconcetti di leggerezza, etereità e fluidità.  Se negli anni \nprecedenti il progetto narrativo ha reso omaggio ai \ngrandi protagonisti del modernismo internazionale, \nquest’anno il riferimento alle radici del movimento è \naccennato, evocativo. Ne cita le atmosfere: le abitazioni \nfluide, da vivere, gli ambienti collegati, ampi e conviviali, \ngli spazi interni ed esterni compenetranti. E soprattutto \nquell’idea di spazio dall’estrema eleganza ma privo \ndi sfarzo fine a se stesso, in armonia con il paesaggio \ncircostante. Parafrasando Alvar Aalto: spazi che nella \nforma esprimono un contenuto e quel contenuto è \ncollegato alla Natura. Vincent van Duysen immagina \nuna casa a un solo piano, per sentirsi in contatto con la \nterra, con l’esterno. Pensa ad abitazioni nel segno della \ntrasparenza, organizzate con partizioni leggere e grandi \naperture verso verande e terrazze all’esterno: spazi \nliminari, liberi e a metà tra intero e open air; ambienti \nprivati ma in contatto diretto con la luce e la natura. \n“È un inno”, spiega Vincent Van Duysen, “a un design \nleggero, che si ispira ai grandi esempi di padiglioni \ndell’epoca modernista”. La luce diviene parte integrante \ndel design dell’ambiente, perché modula la percezione \ne l’espressione della composizione architettonica. \nIn questa logica, gli arredi e sistemi componibili \ndiventano protagonisti nell’organizzazione degli \nambienti. Sono parte dell’architettura, perché si fondono \ncon l’articolazione stessa della casa, integrando nuove \npossibilità compositive che avvolgono architetture \nesistenti, come il camino, o prevedono nuove \nfunzionalità integrate come il bar e l’home office. Si \nviene così a creare una simbiosi tra sistemi arredativi \ne pareti architettoniche. E un dialogo tra gli arredi \nstrutturali e quelli mobili, che divengono oggetti \nsolisti nell’interno dell’abitazione. Vincent Van Duysen \npredilige nelle finiture materiali puri, sensuali da \ntoccare. Legni chiari e materici come il rovere naturale \ne l’eucalipto, con venature a vista o spazzolati a mano, \nper creare superfici uniche e vive al tatto. Nei tessuti \nprivilegia colori chiari e delle terre e trame materiche \nche fanno risaltare la forma stondata degli imbottiti. \nPer una casa da “sentire”, morbida e vera. Da arredare \nintorno a sé, come un abito su misura.\nLa luce è anche al centro del lavoro di Joel Denot, \nle cui opere sono state scelte per accompagnare le \nimmagini della nuova collezione. Anziché produrre delle \nraffigurazioni che si limitano a catturare la realtà del \nmondo che ci circonda, chi osserva si trova immerso \nnell'intensità della luce e nella luminosità dell'aria che \ntrasuda dall'opera di Joel.
