creating \nthe KingSofas gracing the hall \nof Station F, the world’s largest \ncoworking space? It takes five \ngenerations. The story of the \nRosets, a French family, is one \nof responsiveness and steadfast \ncreativity. Antoine Roset was the \nfounder, the woodworker, father of the legacy. When women in the \nlate nineteenth century stopped using cane parasols, Antoine and his \nson Émile pivoted; first, to produce chair legs and bars, and then whole \nchairs. Their small business grew until the late 1930s by extending its\nsavoir-faire to colonnade chairs, cane chairs, and finally, \nleather chairs. In the spirit of postwar reconstruction, \nJean took over the business. He inaugurated the era of \ninstitutional furniture; social organizations, middle schools, \nhigh schools, and colleges were equipped with functional \nfurniture. Inspired by Scandinavian design, beech was the \nmain material used but future design iterations led to the \nincorporation of mahogany, rosewood, and more modern \nmaterials such as plastic and metal.\nIn the 1970s, Jean Roset pivoted the business again, \nback to a private clientele to present the original designs \nof established and up-and-coming designers. Be it \nentrepreneurial intuition or a challenge, the business’ success \ncontinued to grow. \nNow in 2020, Ligne Roset partners with more than seventy \ndesigners of all backgrounds; from emergent to iconic. \nMichel and Pierre Roset have continued to expand their \nmission as trailblazers and talent-finders, throughout an \nexclusive distribution network. \nToday, Roset’s newest business leaders, Olivier and Antoine, \nare adapting Ligne Roset to the digital landscape of the \n21st century.
