Being connected to nature reduces the \nimpact of ADHD, anxiety, anger, and fatigue \nwhile also enhancing creativity, giving clarity \nin \nthoughts, \nstrengthening \nmemory, \nand \nbuilding up the attention span. Physiologically, \nscientists see reduced blood pressure, a lower \nincidence of stress hormones like cholesterol, \nfaster healing, and the prevention of sickness.\nBut how do we reconnect people with nature \nin the built world? Hoping that some plants \nor animals wander in by themselves is not the \nanswer, the answer is biophilic design.\nNature is a friend \nBy intertwining nature into our architecture, \nfurniture, and spaces, you replicate nature’s \nbenefits indoors, create inspiring and refreshing \nplaces where people feel truly at ease, and \ncounteract negative effects such as stress and \nhealth complaints.\nBuildings shouldn’t be concrete shoeboxes \nwith fluorescent lighting, sterile white walls, \nand few windows. What if all classic \nwhite-corridor hospitals started integrating \ndifferent facets of nature and had the objective \nto be “a hospital in a garden and a garden in a \nhospital”?\nPatients would forget parts of the pain and \nrecover much faster in the park-like ambiance. \nEach room would have a window view with \nscented plants and sunshades. We chose \nfor light basic colors and some wooden accents.\nWhy did you choose Extremis furniture?\nWe chose Extremis because their vision suits \nthis project very well: furniture with a strong \npersonality, well-considered features, and high \nquality design,” shares Vermoortel. “Because \nof the fast-changing weather conditions and \npowerful wind, sustainable materials are very \nimportant when designing a project near the \ncoast.
