He \nstarted designing for cassina \nin 1960, and from that date on \nhis signature is to be found on \nseveral products. We recall \nin particular the maralunga \nsofa and the nuvola rossa \n(1977) bookcase, which are \nstill indisputable international \nbest-sellers and have provoked \nhordes of imitations wh ich \nhave not been able to echo \neven faintly the success of the \noriginals.\nVico Magistretti wurde 1920 \nin Mailand geboren. This clumsy \npunch to the sofa broke its back, \nwhich gave the Milan-based \narchitect an idea on how to \nrefashion a traditional model. \nThe Maralunga sofa won the \nCompasso d’oro award, and \nimmediately enjoyed great \nmarket success.
