That couple of vases in the shape of a head, the dark face \nof the man, the elegant look of the lady and their beautiful headgears made such a suggestive impression on me that I was a kind of \nmesmerized. Next September I started doing research and October was the right time to take a plane to Caltagirone. Everyone around \nme was very skeptical, or opposed, to my project to let the world discover such an artisanal and full of pathos product. The first to \ndoubt my intentions were the same artisans I have turned to! In general, however, when I asked people around me what they thought \nabout the Caltagirone Moro Heads, they answered me things like: “They are just holiday souvenirs from Italy!”, “Oh Gosh they are \nscary!”, “They have nothing in common with Abhika collection ”, “They are not good for interior design ”. \nI collected all the resistance that people showed about it and more and more convinced of the extraordinary potential of this object, \nI developed a version that could be “understood”. I chose the colors, refined the physiognomy of the face, changed the make-up, \nmatched the finishing, simplify the ornaments; everything had to be harmonious, contemporary and “legible” to those who had never \nseen them before. The legend from which the Moro heads originate is the very essence of its uniqueness and I wanted to make it \nknown, I was sure it would reach beyond people’s eyes. For me the important message is that love is not a rose water recipe, love is an \noverwhelming power that can also make people do crazy things. Such a strong feeling is not a joke, it must be handled with care and \nattention. And so I did with this wonderful and tenebrous sculpture vase. Today, against all odds, the Moro heads have become a trend \nphenomenon but I would like that they could be for all of us a symbol of how precious is the learning we get from the experience of \nlove.\nManaging & Creative Director Claudia De Gasperi\nCom’è iniziato tutto?\nÈ stato un colpo di fulmine!\nÈ stato un colpo di fulmine! in una caldissima serata estiva dell Agosto 2014, quando l’occupazione principale di tutti noi era socializzare \ne divertirci, un incontro casuale mi aveva stregato e sapevo che non sarebbe finita lì. Sì, avevo visto un vaso di Caltagirone, una testa \ndi moro. Un vaso a forma di testa non era certo una novità! ma quel viso scuro quegli occhi magnetici portavano in se qualcosa \ndi impressionante e suggestivo. Ero come ipnotizzata. A settembre ho iniziato a fare ricerche e ad Ottobre ho preso un aereo per \nCaltagirone. Tutti attorno a me erano molto scettici se non contrari a questo mio progetto di far conoscere al mondo un prodotto cosi \nartigianale  e carico di pathos. I primi a dubitare delle mie intenzioni sono stati gli stessi ceramisti a cui mi sono rivolta! \nIn genere comunque quando chiedevo alla gente attorno a me che ne pensasse mi rispondevano cose come: “sono brutte”, “sono solo \ndei souvenir da vacanza in Italia”, “non te le comprerà nessuno”, “non c’entrano niente con Abhika”, “ non vanno bene per l’arredamento”. \nHo raccolto tutte le resistenze che la gente manifestava a riguardo e sempre più convinta delle straordinarie potenzialità di questo \noggetto quando è stato il momento di creare la versione giusta per i nostri clienti ho elaborato una versione che potesse essere \n“compresa”. I colori, la fisionomia del viso, il trucco la finitura, gli ornamenti, tutto doveva essere perfettamente contemporaneo, elegante \ne “leggibile” a chi non le aveva mai viste prima. La leggenda da cui hanno origine le teste di moro è l’essenza stessa della sua unicità e \nvolevo farla conoscere, ero sicura che sarebbe arrivata oltre gli occhi delle persone. Per me il messaggio importante è che l’amore non \nè una ricetta all’acqua di rose, l’amore non è una cosa leggera, l’amore è una potenza travolgente che può anche far fare cose pazze. \nUn sentimento così forte non è uno scherzo, va maneggiato con cura e attenzione. E così ho fatto con questo meraviglioso e tenebroso \nvaso scultura. Oggi contro ogni aspettativa le teste di moro sono diventate un fenomeno di tendenza ma io volevo che sapeste che \nper me sono state e sono tutt’ora amore a prima vista.\nManaging & Creative Director Claudia De Gasperi\n",2,{"image":22,"text":23,"number":24},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002F46\u002F66b09a04ffc221b39062ec81883d82-28197c7b27.3.png","5\n",3,{"image":26,"text":27,"number":28},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002F46\u002F66b09a04ffc221b39062ec81883d82-28197c7b27.4.png","7\n6\n",4,{"image":30,"text":31,"number":32},"\u002Fmedia\u002Fimages\u002F46\u002F66b09a04ffc221b39062ec81883d82-28197c7b27.5.png","9\nThe Legend of the Moro Head \n“Around 1100 A.D., when Sicily was ruled by the Moors, a beautiful Italian girl was living in reclusion spending \nher days cultivating flowers on her balcony. \nOne day a young Moor passing by, saw her and fell immediately in love. \nHe decided he had to have her and entered the house impetuously to declare his love.\nThe young girl was really surprised, she never had contacts with any other man before, \nso she felt loved and desired for the first time and reciprocated him. \nAfter few weeks she got to know him, he had to return to where he came from, to his wife and children. \nHer heart was broken, all her expectations destroyed and most of all her reputation was ruined forever.\nShe felt completely betrayed and mad with anger, but she did not said a word.\nShe waited for the night to come and as he fell asleep she cut off his head and used it as a vase for basil\nand put it on her balcony displaying it to everyone. \nSince then, flowers grew lush in the “vase” and the neighbors, envious, built vases shaped like a Moor’s head. \nEven today on the Sicilian balcony you can admire these finely refined dark brown heads vases called “teste di Moro”. \nA warning for all husbands”\nLa leggenda della “Testa di Moro” \n“Attorno al 1100 d.C., durante il periodo della dominazione dei Mori in Sicilia, una bellissima ragazza, \nquasi sempre reclusa in casa, passava le giornate coltivando piante sul suo balcone. \nUn giorno si trovò a passare da quelle parti un giovane Moro, che non appena la vide, \nsubito se ne invaghì e decise di averla a tutti i costi. \nEntrò senza indugio in casa della ragazza e le dichiarò immediatamente il suo amore. \nLa fanciulla colpita da quell’ardore, mai sperimentato prima, ricambiò l’amore del giovane Moro. \nBen presto la sua felicità svanì. \nInfatti non appena venne a sapere che il suo amato l’avrebbe lasciata per tornare in Oriente, \ndove lo attendeva una moglie con due figli, il cuore della fanciulla si spezzò. \nResasi conto che tutte le sue aspettative erano distrutte e il suo onore rovinato non disse una parola, \nattese la notte e appena il Moro si addormentò, lo uccise e gli tagliò la testa.\nDella testa del Moro ne fece un vaso in cui piantò del basilico e lo mise in bella vista fuori dal balcone. \nIl Moro in questo modo rimase per sempre con lei.
